Hardwood Flooring Types
Solid Hardwood Flooring is made from a solid piece of wood with no layers, cut from a single section of board. It can be sanded and refinished many times.
Engineered Hardwood planks are made up of multiple layers of wood, consisting of natural wood on the top and plywood layers underneath for added strength. Each layer is positioned in a different direction. This construction prevents the engineered hardwood from warping and bowing. It can typically be sanded and refinished once or twice.
Waterproof Hardwood Flooring is made from 100% hardwood with a tight locking system, super dense core and a special coating that protects it from moisture. As it is a wood product, it is still important to clean up spills, but waterproof hardwood is warrantied for a number of different types of spills for a designated number of hours.
Hardwood Flooring Textures
Traditional hardwood is smooth. But some homeowners today prefer hardwood with subtle textures, such as Hand Scraped or Distressed.
Hardwood Flooring Species
The most common wood species used in Hardwood Flooring are oak, hickory, and maple. But cherry, bamboo, and cork are also very popular. Each species varies in durability, grain patterns and color, so the species you select plays a big role in the overall style of your floor.
Color
Color is another Hardwood style influencer. Natural color variations from board to board are part of what gives hardwood its beauty. Some hardwoods are left unstained to allow the natural color to show through, while others are enhanced with stain.
